THE MISSION

+

Founder Ryan-Ashley Anderson and designer behind the namesake jewelry line decided to open the S+B storefront to help artists and makers, near and far, achieve their dreams of leading a lucrative, handmade life of their own design. Learn more about her background here and explore what the storefront has to offer, below.

At Smart + Becker, we believe the key to success as a maker or artist is having the opportunity to test and develop products in the retail marketplace, show your work to a captive audience, and share your expertise with an eager community. To this end, we offer exhibition, consignment, pop-up shop, and DIY workshop opportunities for creatives of all kinds.

We showcase the work of our consigners at the storefront, seek + create additional retail opportunities with similar creative retail concepts, and create pop-ups to represent their work throughout the southeast.

YES: A FIRST FRIDAY SHOW WITH DELANEY SMITH

+

Delaney Smith is a visual artist working primarily with paper and bookmaking to create sculptures and interactive books. With a focus on aligning process and inherent qualities of material, she explores the ideas of accumulation and transformation through repetition. Her interactive books develop as the viewer alters the pages, creating a unique story of marks and questioning expectations of how one should approach a book.

As a focus for this show, Smith will be presenting her striking, intimate, cast handmade paper Yes, pieces.

The YES pieces originated from a work she made in 2013 called Knebix. Smith was inspired by letterpress, and instead of pressing metal type into paper, she decided to create the text by casting paper pulp directly onto letters.

YES is a choice you make -- not a thing that happens to you. See the work for yourself through the end of July!
