Join us Sunday, Nov. 18 to shop a pop-up of all the indie artists currently shown in the S+B studio as well as to support the DIY Incubator booth we partnered up with Retro to create!
You’ll be able to find DIY kits for macrame planters, hand-lettering how-to’s, and apothecary kids for natural home care. Come see us and help support these budding creative entrepreneurs!
PART THREE: WRITING AS ACTIVISM
Audre Lorde said it, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
Because women live in a world dominated by toxic masculinity, it’s so important for us to find safe spaces to validate the truth of our narratives. In this final portion of the Practice of Poetry workshop series, we’ll dive into how to use practice of poetry to create rituals of personal and public activism. We’ll dive into the details of finding the bravery to write and share hard personal narratives for the sake of healing and change.
ABOUT THE PRACTICE OF POETRY
The Practice of Poetry is a writing workshop series for women who want to use poetry as a healing, meditative, self-care practice. This workshop series is perfect for those who have stories to share that they can't quite find the words for; women who want to establish a continuous, reflective writing practice, and women who have an interest in writing poetry, but feel shy about beginning.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by multi-passionate creators and poets, Daje Morris of Founding Space, and Summer Awad, playwright and activist.
We’re so excited to be exhibiting at the Contemporary Arts Center in Ohio! Come see us there or visit the Knoxville storefront!
Atypical is a monthly market at Relix in Happy Holler showcasing Knoxville artists and makers, and the August market is on the 19th! Join us for ridiculously inexpensive drinks, a delicious beer tasting, a fun photo booth, and, of course, lots of great handmade goods!
Join us August 3, 6-10p to experience FINDING JOY — a collection of abstract embroidery work by artist Shea Goitia. These pieces chronicle the experience with a medium that often has a connotation with spinsterdom, but has been reclaimed in the form of embracing singleness and the self-awareness it produces. You’re gonna love it!
Join us the 4th Thursday of every month for an embroidery sampler workshop with Hopebroidery! July’s stitch is French Knots and, yes, there are many different ways to stitch them!
